Veterinary Service
Pet Surgery
Unlike other clinics, our highly trained and experienced veterinarians and knowledgeable staff can administer procedures and treatments right at Forest Hills Cat Hospital. We make certain that your cat receives the best veterinary medical care possible.
Pet Surgery
Our expert staff conducts extensive pre-operative exams and diagnostics and closely monitors your pet from the time they are admitted until they leave.
Pet Surgery
When your cat arrives for surgery, one of our staff members will check them in and place them in a quiet, comfortable location. Boxes and warm towels are provided for the cat’s comfort. We believe that it is critical to keep stress levels as low as possible before and after surgery.
We routinely perform the following procedures:
- Spays and Neuters
- Bladder surgery (Cystotomy and Perineal Urethrostomy)
- Exploratory surgery
- Tumor removal & Gastrointestinal surgeries
- Eye & eyelid surgery
- Biopsy & Skin surgery
- Wound repair and abscesses
We will perform an exam and draw a pre-anesthetic blood panel to ensure that your cat can safely undergo anesthesia.
Anesthesia
We understand your natural apprehension about putting a loved one under anesthesia. We minimize risks and believe that our protocol and extensive monitoring provide our patients with exceptional safety. We use one of the most secure gas anesthetics available. We begin with a pre-anesthetic injection to relax the cat. This injection is also reversible if we need to wake the cat up right away. Each patient is given an IV catheter and fluids to help them maintain their blood pressure, body temperature, and medications. Using the most advanced monitoring equipment, an RVT will monitor your pet's heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, body temperature, and respiration throughout the procedure. Our results and track record of safety speak for themselves.
Surgical Suite
Our hospital has a separate surgical suite. Our surgical suite is only used for surgery. To minimize bacteria and other infectious organisms, this room is kept as sterile as possible. A surgical table, thermal blankets, anesthesia, and extensive monitoring equipment are all available in this room.
Pain Management
We work hard to keep your cat pain-free. To alleviate any pain that your pet may be experiencing, we use a multi-modal approach that includes anti-inflammatories, local anesthetics, narcotics/opioids, and general anesthesia.
If your cat is suffering from chronic pain, such as arthritis, we can discuss your options and tailor a pain management plan to your cat's specific needs.
Postoperative Care
A surgical nurse will continue to monitor and comfort your cat during its recovery. We treat our patients as if they were family members.
